The Zoo
The zoo task was one which I really enjoyed. The prospect of having a task that involved drawing the same animal one hundred times was really exciting and a good way to kick off the year. I got a bear which I found entertaining to draw. Once we had finished the project we sat down on a Monday morning for a group crit/review of the work we had all produced during this task. Upon seeing the work of others I was thrown off a bit. This is because there was a much greater sense of playfulness and exploration visible in others in my book. I wouldn’t say that I wasn’t happy with the work I produced I just don’t think that I really took in the extent to which I was able to experiment. Doing so would have actually helped me to understand the animal I was given to a greater depth. Even though I may have made drawings that I didn’t necessarily want to pin on my wall I would’ve still learnt from mistakes and different routes of drawing.
This project has definitely opened me up more toward to broadness of drawing. In future I am going to take a conscious effort in not limiting myself to a particular style/shape/colour/anything!
