Pat Tutorial

Had a good chat with Pat B today about my project and feel like he's helped clear things up a bit and reduce the overwhelming feeling I am often getting with this brief. Here are main notes from the tutorial:

  • Project is a documentation of research into the cosmic disco scene. Using imagery and text to guide the audience through the birth and subsequent history of the genre.
  • Using a mismatch of media/processes to communicate the sound of the music as well as the history surrounding it.
  • Use screen print to refresh and elevate your ideas. Maybe recreating some of the airbrush renders with print could look cool.
  • Attempt to contact people that where part of the scene! Could give you access to new and exciting stories to respond to.
  • Posters as outcomes could be versatile, could use text, imagery and infographics to explore the topic.
  • If creating, say, ten posters then find 10 pieces of relevant information to respond to on each one. Potentially in a linear fashion that could work well in an exhibition. Understanding that most of audience will be unaware and need to be somewhat exposed to the information in layman's terms. How can this be done?
  • If the interview is the only piece of solid information you can find then what about breaking it down into segments which you can then create individual posters from?
  • Think outside the box, what about using Italian art? The renaissance?! And language too, can use Italian language, maybe simultaneously with English as this will further communicate the research.
Over the next few days I am going to try and contact people online so fingers crossed! Also need to get in the bloody print room. I really like the idea of repurposing some Italian Renaissance art, this could be really broken down and abstracted. Need to get into the library and find some good books on it to scan from.

Final Reflective Report

The extended project has allowed me to investigate a range of concepts and practical processes that are fundamental to my practice. I feel...
