'Musicophilia' - 2007)
His biography, 'On The Move', is the book that I have been focussing on most as I've found myself particularly interested in his personal life and the multitude of ways that his experiences have shaped and informed his practice. Key areas of the book that have helped develop my thinking so far are his case studies on hallucinations and the thin line between reality and whatever lies beyond. As well as dissecting the minds of many affected by mental illness, he was also prone to a bit of self experimentation during his younger years. Sacks talks openly about his own experiences taking drugs and a number of occasions where things almost got out of hand. The descriptions he gives of these experiences are quite striking, they definitely provide a good direction to begin my visual exploration.
