The work I've documented on this post is by the Nordic Illustrator and Designer, Bendik Kaltenborn. Kaltenborn has a really strong awareness and use of composition in his work that I find quite inspiring. An example of this is in Figure 1, where the majority of the image is taken up with a block red. Then in the mid bottom area of the image a set of characters and subsequently a story, is revealed through a split in what now appears to be a curtain. This process of luring they eye through the image and letting a story unravel visually is something I'd love to incorporate into my work for this brief. His character work is also something that I find really interesting. As displayed in Figure 2 and 3 mainly, there is a fluidity and ease within the shapes that Kaltenborn uses for his characters. This is complemented by a bold and lively colour palette that works to contrast with the flowing shapes used.
A further component of Kaltenborns work that I find works really well is his incorporation of type into his imagery. He uses script typefaces so to merge the wording effortlessly into his imagery. This method may work well in the book, it is definitely a process I would like to explore and play with throughout this project.
