Digital Development

Below are images of the current point that I've reached in developing the ideas for the Penguin Live Brief:

I began with the idea that I'd taken from my sketchbook, using the nose of 'The Establishment' as a suggestion toward corruption and lies told by the elite. Once I'd taken this onto Illustrator, and started to see a more complete idea of what this could look like as a cover spread, I started to wonder whether the nose was the best way to communicate this idea. I ended up restricting the components of the image to the profile of someone with a bowler hat and used colours of red and blue which both have political connotations.

I think in my further progression with this brief it might be good to start limiting the communicative points of the image. Using simpler and more explicit motifs could help in conveying the theme of the book at a subtler level that leaves the customer more open to independent interpretation. Considering the subject of this book, that will probably be the best idea, as it's a very touchy subject that people have very different opinions on. So appealing to a wider audience would definitely be better from a marketing perspective. The type that I have been using so far is fairly neutral, I decided on this for the same reasons I'd just stated, in terms of trying to reach as many as possible. One thing to keep in mind is to make sure that this doesn't result in the cover becoming dull or unable to catch someones attention.

Things to take note of when progressing:

- Other typefaces?
- Should curve through image be more centred?
- Could colours be changed to make image pop a bit more?
- Spine! Back cover! Text! Etc...
